If you ever doubted that you should change your transmission fluid; please take a look at these pictures. This is a 1997 Cadillac with 196,000 miles on it. I think this is the first time it has had the fluid changed. Notice how dark the transmission fluid is; it should be a bright cherry red. This could have been prevented had the owner regularly changed the transmission fluid. Your transmission fluid should be change every 30,000 miles (in severe service driving conditions like Little Rock AR).
